“Why, Uncle?” Jacob asked. “Why are they doing this?” Abruptly, Avi pulled the Adler around a corner onto a street that, for the moment at least, was as quiet as it was deserted. Avi slammed on the brakes and shut down the engine. Then he turned sharply and stared into Jacob’s eyes. “Because he’s a Jew,” Avi whispered. “They’re killing him because he’s a Jew.”
