“We have a lot of fake rules in our society about joy and confidence. We don’t like it when it’s messy or uncoordinated. We’re uncomfortable if it doesn’t look a certain way. If it’s too loud. Too boisterous. Not the right ‘time.’ Time, of course, being something other people get to decide for us. We especially don’t like the person getting wild on the dance floor by themselves if we want to be doing the same thing but feel we can’t.”
